The following are general descriptions of many of the activities that our club has annually. See our Calendar for details on the activities scheduled for this month. On that page you will find a print icon - select that to download a copy of this month's 'Print Activity Calendar.' Dinner Meetings (every 4th Mon.)
Location: La Hacienda Recreation Center Signup Deadline: Wednesday before the meeting (for ordering food). Time: 5:30 - 8:00p (doors open at 5:00p) Our monthly meetings occur every 4th Monday of the month. It brings together food, fun and entertainment for a very reasonable price. See details for sign-up on our Calendar Web page. Most sign-up at the prior monthly meeting but can be sign-up can be arranged at other times. Dining Out (varies; usually 1st week of the month)
Signup Deadline: 3 days before dinner date (for reservation headcount) The Palo Alto normally has one or two group dinners per month. The dinners are announced via the Email Notices (Add yourself to our mail list using our Contact Us form) and on this Web site on our Calendar page. It's a fun time and sometimes restaurants have a special offer that only groups can get. In any case, for the group dinners (and anytime), we suggest you consider adding yourself to their email mail list, where applicable. You may receive nice discounts throughout the year. For example, Square 1 often offers 2 for 1 burgers via their email newsletters. If you are ever unhappy with their email newsletter, you can click "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of it. |
Golf Scrambles (normally May, July and Sept. each year)
The Palo Alto normally has three Golf Scrambles per year - May, July and September. The format is Best Ball for four-person teams. Prizes are awarded either following the scramble or at the following monthly meeting. Check our Calendar page for scheduled scrambles and the contact names and numbers associated with the particular scramble. For general questions, contact Alice and Steve Smith at 259-3015. |
Palo Alto Co-ed Bowling League
(ev Tues. / 7 pm) Palo Alto co-ed Bowling League (every Tues. 7:00 pm) League is for 32 weeks starting the last Tuesday in August. This is a non-sanctioned handicap mixed bowling league at Spanish Springs Bowling Alley. The Palo Alto Bowling League has openings for subs, alternate bowlers and regular bowlers. You may also form your own team if space is available. Teams consist of four bowlers with a max of 6 bowlers including at least one female bowler. We have alternate bowlers on teams with more than 4 players who pay the regular weekly fee when they bowl and share in the prize fund at the end of the season. Subs pay a $5.00 fee to bowl. Palo Alto Couples Bridge (1st Wed. / 6:30 - 9:15pm - January thru April + tournament)
Location: Tierra Del Sol Rec Center, Card Room Alice Smith and Nancy Garrett are taking over the leadership role for Couples Bridge. Thanks to Margie Hunt for serving in this way for so long. Instead of meeting in homes as in the past, we have been able to reserve the Tierra del Sol card room for the first Wednesdays of January, February, March, & April in 2021 at 6:30 - 9:15pm. If you are interested in playing bridge, please contact Nancy Garrett at 352 430-2564 / ggarretts@comcast.net (or we'll be at the Oct Monthly Meeting to do signups). You must sign up as a couple (a man & a woman, 2 women, or 2 men), & we will limit the group to a multiple of four. Subs are also needed. Palo Alto Ladies Bridge (Every Mon. / 12:30 pm, except 4th Monday)
Our bridge group plays every Monday at 12:30 except for the 4th Monday which is the Palo Alto Club Monthly Meeting. We play year round. A roster is given showing who is hosting. Hostesses are to offer only two snacks. If you are unable to attend, you must get your own substitute. We presently gather at Jeanne Anderson's home at 1905 Iglesia every week and the hostess, who was to have it, brings the goodies. Bocce League (normally one to two per year)
Each spring and fall we enjoy a month long Palo Alto Bocce League / Tournament. It's a lot of fun and ends with a outdoor awards / pizza party under the pavillion at Tierra Rec Center where first, second and third place prizes are handed out. Palo Alto Softball Team (Sat.) Fall season starts: Early to Mid September Winter season starts: About Week 1 of January Interested in Joining the Team? Contact Mike Durkin at 750-6447. Anyone interested in joining our team must have been evaluated by the Recreation Department and qualify for Division 5.
The Palo Alto Softball team was an original member of the Neighborhood Softball League in 1999. Palo Alto Book Club (3rd Wed. / 1:00 pm)
The Palo Alto Book Club meets the third Wednesday every month at 1:00 pm (except one or more summer months at times / watch schedule). At our meeting, we determine what group member will host the meeting the following month. You can become a regular member, and attend the meetings, OR now you can be a 'Phantom Member' described on the Palo Alto Book Club Web page. Palo Alto Club Carpool Road Trip (CRT)
Palo Alto Club's Carpool Road Trip (CRT) was a new offering starting in January 2018. The reconfigured Carpool Road Trips (CRTs) will entail trips we set up on shorter notice so if we see something fun at the last minute, we can substitute it. How spontaneous can you be?
The road trips are expected to happen every month or every other month They will usually include a meal before or after the CRT main event. The plans for upcoming CRTs (and who to contact to sign up) will be shown on our site's online Calendar page and usually in more detail and/or with more photos on our special Carpool Road Trip Web page (book mark it!). We'll look for group rates when we can. When a restaurant is involved, we will ask for a $5 deposit (cash or check payable to Palo Alto Club) to reserve your spot, just like Dining Out. You will get it back when you come to the restaurant.

The Palo Alto Ladies Pinochle Group (ev 2nd Thurs. / 1 p.m.)
Enjoy pinochle? The Palo Alto Ladies Pinochle Group is looking for new members and subs. We’d like to welcome you to our group. Eight of us play every 2nd Thursday at 1 p.m. in our homes. Interested? Please call Mary Doggett, 750-1808. Interested but this date or time doesn’t work for you? Call anyway. We are flexible. Come get to know some new neighbors or enjoy those you’d like to know better. We’re low key and just enjoy the game and one another. The Palo Alto Pinochle Group meets on the 2nd Thursday every month. Contact: Mary Doggett at 750-1808. |
Palo Alto Ladies GAME NITE (2nd Thursday ev month at 6:30 pm)
The Palo Alto Ladies now meet for Palo Alto Ladies Game Nite at TIerra del Sol Rec Center on the 2nd Thursday each month. We are now officially assigned our own space for GAMES, etc. at TIerra Del Sol Rec Center for the 2nd Thursday at 6:30. It is time reserved for PALO ALTO LADIES and their Guests with proper I.D. You may even bring your Grandkids if they are 8 and older and like to play games. Bring any game you would like to teach/play or we will use the games available in the center. Just show up and we will work out what & how to play. It is a very relaxed set-up. Coordinator- Lee Asta

The group is not a league. Two games are played. Scores are not recorded & are quickly forgotten. All come just for fun. No prior shuffleboard playing experience is needed. Equipment is provided. Please consider joining your Palo Alto friends on Monday mornings. Contact Alice or Steve Smith at 259-3015 with questions, otherwise just show up if you can play.
