The following are general descriptions of many of the activities that our club has annually. See our Calendar for details on the activities scheduled for this month. On that page you will find a print icon - select that to download a copy of this month's 'Print Activity Calendar.' Take part in the activities that interest you... or get on the sub list or waiting list, as needed.
Monthly Meetings (every 4th Mon.)
Location: La Hacienda Recreation Center Signup Deadline: Friday before the meeting (for ordering food). Our monthly meetings occur every 4th Monday of the month. It brings together food, fun and entertainment for a very reasonable price. See details for sign-up on our Calendar Web page. Dining Out (varies; usually 1st week of the month)
Signup Deadline: 3 days before dinner date (for reservation headcount) The Palo Alto normally has one or two group dinners per month. The dinners are announced via the Email Notices (Add yourself to our mail list using our Contact Us form) and on this Web site on our Calendar page. It's a fun time and sometimes restaurants have a special offer that only groups can get. In any case, for the group dinners (and anytime), we suggest you consider adding yourself to their email mail list, where applicable. You may receive nice discounts throughout the year. For example, Square 1 often offers 2 for 1 burgers via their email newsletters. If you are ever unhappy with their email newsletter, you can click "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of it. |
Golf Scrambles (normally May, July and Sept. each year)
The Palo Alto normally has three Golf Scrambles per year - May, July and September. The format is Best Ball for four-person teams. Prizes are awarded either following the scramble or at the following monthly meeting. Check our Calendar page for scheduled scrambles and the contact names and numbers associated with the particular scramble. For general questions, contact Alice and Steve Smith at 259-3015. |
Palo Alto Couples Bridge (1st Wed. / 7 pm - Oct. thru May + tournament)
We meet on the 1st Wednesday of every month from October thru May and have a tournament in May at a rec center. Signups in Aug/Sept or call anytime to express interest in joining. We often have room for more bridge players and subs. Join your neighbors and enjoy a friendly game of party bridge. You may sign up as an individual, or as a couple. Subs are needed, as well as one couple or two friends, to play. Each couple will entertain twice per year at designated houses and each couple will host just two tables. Donation is $1 per person. Our bridge group plays the first Thursday each Month from 1-4 pm except June-Aug. We play in summer, too, if we have enough ladies wanting to do so. An email is sent the 3rd week each month asking who’s playing next month & asking for volunteers to host. Then we assign ladies to host homes. We contribute $2. $1.00 is divided between high, second and third place winners and the second $1 is a donation. Contact Carol Corey at [email protected]. |
Palo Alto Ladies Golf (Thurs. mornings)
The Ladies Golf is held at a different Executive Golf Course (normally North of Hwy 466) on Thursday mornings. Contact Marnie Wright (750-2626 or [email protected]) if you would like to be added to the sub list. |
Bocce League (normally two to three per year)
Each spring and fall we enjoy a month long Palo Alto Bocce Tournament. It's a lot of fun and ends with a outdoor pizza party under the pavillion at Tierra Rec Center where first, second and third place prizes are handed out. Contact Mary Ann or Gene D'Amico at 352 391-3622 or [email protected]. |
Palo Alto Softball Team (Sat.) 2018 Fall season starts: Sept 10 – Dec 16. 2019 Winter season starts Jan 7 – April 12. Interested in Joining the Team? Contact Mike Durkin at 750-6447. Anyone interested in joining our team must have been evaluated by the Recreation Department and qualify for Division 5. Division 5 is a beginning level for new or older players. Ladies must be at least 40 years old and Men must be at least 50 years old. You do not need to be super qualified to play in this division. This is a great chance for a new residence that has not played in 30 years to try out softball. We currently have 2 ladies playing on our team and welcome more. Contact Mike Durkin (750-6447 or he is normally at the 50/50 table at the monthly meetings) for more information about the team and how to get evaluated. The Palo Alto Softball team was an original member of the Neighborhood Softball League in 1999. See the Palo Alto Club Softball Team page for a large image and more information. Wording before 180814: Every Saturday. The Palo Alto Softball team was an original member of the Neighborhood Softball League in 1999 and (as of Spring 2015) the past two seasons were special in that the team finished first (for the first time) twice in consecutive seasons. Jack Augustine has always been the manager. We are part of the 'Neighborhood Division 5 - Gray Division.' Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy time outside supporting our team. Appetizer Party (3rd Mon. / 4 pm to 6:20 pm)
Appetizer party is held the third Monday every month (formerly second Monday) from 4 pm to 6:20 pm and is in the Tootie Jackson Room (The Tootie!) of Tierra Del Sol Rec. Center. Bring your own drinks and an appetizer to share. No reservations needed – just show up! Contact: Bill Biebesheimer, 750-6199. |
Ladies Luncheon (1st Tues. / 12:00 pm)
The location for our monthly luncheon, as of March 2017, moved back to Marguarita Republic. We order from the menu. We’d like as many of our Palo Alto gals to attend that can do and join the fun. Palo Alto Book Club (3rd Wed. / 1:15 pm)
The Palo Alto Book Club meets the third Wednesday every month at 1:15 pm (except one or more summer months at times / watch schedule). At our meeting, we determine what group member will host the meeting the following month. You can become a regular member, and attend the meetings, OR now you can be a 'Phantom Member' described on the Palo Alto Book Club Web page. Tootie's Dancers (1st, 2nd & 4th Thursdays /4:30-6 * )
Offered by Janemarie Dorsey. This is a basic beginner class of easy and fun dances so you can dance at the square and parties and that help you learn line dance basics and terminology. If you missed previous lessons, join us anytime anyway. We'll learn new dances and will review ones you missed as that helps others, too. Dates confirmed on the Calendar Web page (e.g. a class may be added for the 5th Thursday, when applicable, or a class may be cancelled because we had less than eight signups). Rec Center not available 3rd Thursdays. - Wear shoes with soles that will slide or cover one of them with a sock and wear comfortable exercise clothing. - Do not overdress, It is exercise and you can get warm. - Come and have fun. - Newcomers provide your email address and phone number for notifications. - Questions: Contact Janemarie Dorsey at 259-1371 or Mike Durkin at 750-6447 or see Mike at the 50/50 table most monthly meetings. - SIGNUPS: For each class, it is dependent on our having minimum signups met (at least eight signups required for class to happen). Palo Alto Friends Shuffleboard
(ev Mon. 9:30 - 11 am) Location: Tierra del Sol Palo Alto Friends Shuffleboard, Monday mornings from 9:30 - 11:00 at Tierra del Sol, is starting up again! Couples & singles are welcome. Teams are formed on a weekly basis depending on who shows up! The group is not a league. Two games are played. Scores are not recorded & are quickly forgotten. All come just for fun. No prior shuffleboard playing experience is needed. Equipment is provided. Please consider joining your Palo Alto friends on Monday mornings. Palo Alto Club Carpool Road Trip (CRT) (normally once per month on varying days and times)
Our Board has initiated Palo Alto Club's Carpool Road Trip (CRT) this year (2018). The plan is that it will be a monthly road trip to something fun and will vary every month. We encourage suggestions! We'll plan upcoming CRTs and let you know what's coming up and who to contact to sign up. See our Carpool Road Trip Web page for this years plans and for details on the next few months' trips (book mark it!). You'll also find details on our Calendar page.
Meeting / Departure Time: Get in carpools at your homes ahead of time. Meet at the designated meeting place and time (normally Tierra Del Sol Rec Center parking lot) for that month's event. We'll email directions to people that signed up about four days before the event, in case you have to leave from your home or are running late.
Group Rates: We'll look for group rates when possible. Group rates paid in advance are non-refundable (like the Villages Ticket Office).
Restaurant Reservation: When a restaurant is involved, we will ask for a $5 deposit* to reserve your spot, just like Dining Out. You will get it back when you come to the restaurant.

The Palo Alto Ladies Pinochle Group (ev 2nd Thurs. / 1 p.m.)
Enjoy pinochle? The Palo Alto Ladies Pinochle Group is looking for new members and subs. We’d like to welcome you to our group. Eight of us play every 2nd Thursday at 1 p.m. in our homes. Interested? Please call Mary Doggett, 750-1808. Interested but this date or time doesn’t work for you? Call anyway. We are flexible. Come get to know some new neighbors or enjoy those you’d like to know better. We’re low key and just enjoy the game and one another. The Palo Alto Pinochle Group meets on the 2nd Thursday every month. Contact: Mary Doggett at 750-1808. |
Palo Alto Ladies GAME NITE
(2nd Thurs. / 6:15 pm) The Palo Alto Ladies now meet for Palo Alto Ladies Game Nite at TIerra del Sol Rec Center on the 2nd Thursday each month. We are now officially assigned our own space for GAMES, etc. at TIerra Del Sol Rec Center for the 2nd Thursday at 6:30. It is time reserved for PALO ALTO LADIES and their Guests with proper I.D. You may even bring your Grandkids if they are 8 and older and like to play games. Bring any game you would like to teach/play or we will use the games available in the center. League is for 32 weeks starting the last Tuesday in August. This is a non-sanctioned handicap mixed bowling league. At the start of the season, the Palo Alto Bowling League has openings for subs, alternate bowlers and regular bowlers. You may also form your own team if desired. Our league starts in late August and continues for 32 weeks. Teams consist of four bowlers with a max of 6 bowlers including at least one female bowler. We have alternate bowlers on teams with more than 4 players who pay the regular weekly fee when they bowl and share in the prize fund at the end of the season. Subs pay a $5.00 fee to bowl. At 7 pm every Tuesday, the Palo Alto Bowlers take to the alleys. Mike Durkin will be at the 50/50 table most monthly meetings. Contact Mike Durkin at 750-6447 or Barb Stempel at 753-1498.
